Howdy y’all! It’s Good Friday, but we’re still on for Farmers Market! Come n’ get your goodies for Sunday dinner 😛 The hoop houses are kicking out plenty of greens for a delicious salad, and our market freezers are stocked with long-awaited beef roasts, and ham roasts, too. I’m not certain whether the dandelion greens are prime, but maybe one could do some wild foraging while searching for those Easter eggs, combine bitter with our delicately delicious greens, and toss with a warm bacon dressing, straight from our porkies out at Hunt Acres — just like Momma used to make! Mmm Mmm home cookin’!
Come n’ get some home cooking at the 4th annual Local Foods Expo! In lieu of Foodie Friday, we’ve prepared a lovely lunch for Saturday’s event: Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Bisque, plenty of cornbread, lots of salad, and a hint of herbal tea. Sounds delightful on a warm cloudy day, don’t you agree? There will also be barbeque, baked goods, coffee, and plenty of plants wanting to go home with you! Vendors from around the area, including farmers, local businesses, growers, seed savers, and all-around educational folks and organizations will be represented.
In conjunction with Sustainable Berea and other non-profit groups, the College and the Farmers Market collaborate onthis yearly event in dedication to the creation of a local, sustainable food economy. Come share dialogue, check out the exhibitions, purchase your gardening needs, join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) endeavor, and support local musicians at this family-friendly event – children’s activities facilitated! The Local Foods Expo will be held at the College Gardens off Scaffold Cane Road from 10am – 3pm. Parking will be available down the hill in the Brushy Fork lot across the way from Elm Street, with shuttles running to and from the gardens to accommodate your stuffed arms or weary feet. Handicapped parking is located in the greenhouse parking lot.
Following the busy weekend, next week at the College marks our ninth president’s Inauguration activities, as we honor and welcome Dr. & Mrs. Roelofs contributions to the school with a week-long celebration. Expect plenty of guests and alumni around town; maybe some of you will be eager to visit us at next week’s farmers market even!
Looking forward to it!
