Due to the return of winter on the days following the Spring Equinox, come fill up on some comfort food at the Berea Farmers Market: sloppy-joe ‘stuffer’ muffins. A delicious twist on a run-of-the-mill weeknight’s meal, these babies are portable, tasty, and messy in the best kind of way — so much so that they’ve been aptly named ‘stuffers,’ as in, stuff in my mouth! Basically, our BC-grown honey-buttery cornbread has been muffinized and topped with our beefy sloppy joe mix, or yammy ragout for the vegetarians, and baked into Appalachian fusion cuisine 🙂 Com’n try one for supper or a snack!

If that’s not appeasing enough, we’ll also be sharing seeds, so don’t forget to stash pockets and/or packets in your reusable shopping totes to partake in the swap. Bring seeds of all occasions and sorts to exchange with your marketeering neighbors, and experience a new variety of garden this season! Hopefully we’ll be able to collect a sampling from near and far, and get your gardening noggins crankin’ so you can come out to the plant sale the next day to fulfill your needs. Saturday from 10:00-2:00 heralds our first annual plant sale of the season at the BC greenhouse just below campus off Scaffold Cane Road. Beautiful starts of leafy greens like spinach and kale will be available (so you no longer have to face disappointment at the market when our greens have sold out), as well as fragrant herbs, trees, flowers, and succulents. Load up on potted gifts that keep on giving to bestow on loved ones for the various holidays surrounding Spring —  we have some lovely lilies that’ll certainly please Mom and Granny, and fig and papaya trees for those adventurous wanderlust hearts. Whatever your nectar, we’d love to see you there, and at the market, so come on out and commune with community! Keep in mind that next weekend offers another opportunity to get some fresh air in the BC gardens. The Local Foods Expowill run from 10-3 on March 30!

Sweet deal, thanks for reading!
