Apart from a small full-time staff that includes the store manager, baker, and butcher, the Farm Store operates entirely on student labor. Berea College is one of only eight work-study colleges in the nation, requiring each student to dedicate 10 – 15 hours a week to a campus labor position. The student employees of the Farm Store are a diverse group of individuals united in their desire to learn more about farm-to-table food preparation and a collaboration of business models.
The Farm Store is open year-round and provides a daily lunch menu prepared by students using fresh ingredients from the Berea College Farm and Greenhouses. You can also purchase raw seasonal ingredients for your own culinary endeavors from the meat freezers, produce coolers, and dry-good shelves lining the walls of the store. Locally sourced kombuchas are routinely on tap and the bakery case is stocked daily with fresh breads and pastries made from scratch with our Berea College grains, herbs, fruits and vegetables. You can enjoy a country-style breakfast of BC organic bacon, eggs, grits, oatmeal, and sausage with a slice of artisanal toast on Saturday mornings, or grab some soup and a sandwich for lunch.
Your purchases at the Farm Store support sustainable agriculture education for students with strong academic potential and financial need. Thank you!
